Getting smart about car insurance can provide cost savings and peace of mindMinister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, says the Caribbean region must not be left behind in taking advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) to propel the tourism sector forward. He said that as the global tourism landscape becomes increasingly competitive, more countries are recognising the potential of AI, and Jamaica and the wider Caribbean must utilise the technology to maintain the region's competitive edge. Bartlett, who was addressing a forum at the Sandals Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios, St Ann on Friday, noted that AI can become a pivotal tool in enhancing operational processes and creating more personalised experiences for travellers. “We are now seeing where many countries are not just using AI to streamline operations but also to enhance customer service. They have also been using the tool to analyse vast amounts of data to identify trends, preferences, and behaviours, enabling businesses to tailor their offerings to meet the specific needs of travellers. We can't afford to be left behind,” he said. “We are at an exciting time in tourism history where, if leveraged correctly, we will be able to improve our processes and ultimately make more targeted and strategic decisions,” he added. Bartlett said the potential applications of AI in tourism are vast, ranging from automated customer service systems to advanced data analytics that inform marketing strategies. He said AI-powered chatbots can provide 24/7 assistance to travellers, answering queries and offering personalised recommendations. In addition, he noted that predictive analytics can help businesses anticipate traveller demand, allowing them to adjust pricing and availability accordingly. “The key lies in understanding the needs of the new landscape, which is increasingly driven by technology,” the Minister pointed out. “From smart hotel rooms equipped with voice-activated controls to mobile apps that facilitate seamless check-ins, technology is fundamentally changing the way travellers interact with their destinations. In this context, Jamaica and the Caribbean must not only keep pace but also lead in the adoption of innovative solutions,” he said. The Minister underscored the importance of training tourism workers to adapt to “this new technological frontier.” “This proactive approach to workforce training is crucial, as it empowers employees to utilise AI tools effectively, fostering an environment of innovation and adaptability,” he said. Noting that the integration of AI in tourism is not without its challenges, Minister Bartlett said that concerns about job displacement and the digital divide must be addressed to ensure that the benefits of technology are equitably distributed. “While there is the relative fear of the unknown as it relates to technology, the world has been a better place, and mankind has benefited as a result of the advancement of technology,” he added. - JIS News Follow The Gleaner on X and Instagram @JamaicaGleaner and on Facebook @GleanerJamaica. Published 23:57 IST, December 15th 2024 PM Modi Asks States To Focus On Startup Growth, Compliance Simplification, Obesity Control New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked states to work towards providing an environment where start-ups can flourish, simplify the compliances that often lead to harassment of citizens and take obesity as a big challenge. Addressing the fourth national conference of chief secretaries here, he said states should reform governance model in such a way that encourages citizen participation, according to an official statement. Modi said it is important to focus on reform, perform, and transform, and that it is also important to inform people about various initiatives of the government. In the health sector, he urged the participants that obesity should be taken as a big challenge in the country. Only a fit and healthy India can be a 'Viksit Bharat', he added. The prime minister said India can be made tuberculosis-free by the end of 2025, and that ASHA and Anganwadi workers can play a big role in delivering this goal. Asserting that old manuscripts were India's treasure, he said states should take steps to use technology to digitize it. He said a great benefit of the conference was that "Team India" had come together for discussion with an open mind and work together for a 'Viksit Bharat'. Pro-People Pro-active Good Governance (P2G2) is at the core of their work through which they can together achieve the vision of a Viksit Bharat, he added. The conference included discussions around the overarching theme of 'Promoting Entrepreneurship, Employment and Skilling -- Leveraging the Demographic Dividend'. Lauding the advent of start-ups, especially in tier-2 and 3 cities, the prime minister asked states to encourage such innovations and work towards providing an environment where start-ups can flourish. "He urged states to identify locations suitable for entrepreneurs in smaller cities and take initiative to connect them with the banking system, provide logistics and facilitate them," the statement said. Modi asked states to explore concepts of Viability Gap Funding for recycling of e-waste. This is particularly important as with increasing data and technology driven society, digital waste will further increase, he said. While appreciating that PM GatiShakti has been a key enabler for good governance, he also said that the initiative must be regularly updated and indicators for environmental impacts, disaster prone areas should be included in it. Talking about Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme, he said that competent officers posted in these blocks and districts can bring about massive changes at the ground level. It would also lead to immense socio-economic benefits, he added. Modi also encouraged officials to work for human resources development in order to develop cities as centres of economic growth. He emphasized on developing institutions for specialization in urban governance, water and environment management. With increasing urban mobility, he stressed on providing adequate urban accommodation which would in turn lead to better productivity in the manufacturing sector in new industrial hubs. Noting that it was the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Modi lauded him as an inspiration for all civil servants and said that everyone should work towards achieving his dream of India. As men, women and children from all walks of life participated in the freedom struggle despite their different circumstances, ideological differences and different means, similarly every Indian must work towards making Viksit Bharat by 2047, he said. The three-day conference, which ended on Sunday, emphasised on special themes that included manufacturing, services, rural non-farm sector, urban, renewable energy, and circular economy. Various sessions during the conference deliberated to work around subjects which would help in collaborative action in promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing skilling initiatives, and creating sustainable employment opportunities for both rural and urban populations thereby helping in the transition of India from middle income to high income country. These initiatives can emerge as the driving wheels for the economy with women-led development as the foundation, the statement said. The participants discussed that a multifaceted approach is required to harness the potential of India's service sector, especially in smaller cities, it said. This involves a combination of policy interventions, infrastructure development, skill enhancement, and a focus on creating a business-friendly environment, the statement added. Emphasis on skilling and formalization of the informal sector was also discussed. Similarly in the rural non-farm sector, it was discussed that rural entrepreneurship should be promoted through specific skilling courses. It was also felt that women and marginalized groups' participation in non-farm employment should also be encouraged through special incentives, the statement said. The conference had a special session on frontier technologies representing convergence of various fields which can help in providing solutions to global challenges. It also could provide India an opportunity to lead in this arena and have a trajectory of inclusive and sustainable growth, the statement said. The conference was attended by chief secretaries, senior officials of all states and Union territories, domain experts and senior officers in the Centre, it said. A mum who weighed just six stone was given "staggered overdoses" of paracetamol by hospital staff - and died from sepsis and multi-organ failure days later. Mum-of-two Laura Higginson, from Widnes, Cheshire, was admitted to Whiston Hospital with suspected pneumonia on April 5 2017, and was given the staggered overdoses of paracetamol across a number of days before medics realised their mistake. A month-long inquest heard how the 30-year-old, who was 5ft1 inches tall and weighed 6st, was given doses too high for a woman of her size. The evidence was unable to determine that the overdoses contributed to Laura's death from sepsis on April 19, Coroner Simon Holder said. Handing down a narrative conclusion, he said: "On the evidence I have heard, from April 5 to April 7 Laura Higginson was administered excess staggered doses of paracetamol while a patient at Whiston Hospital. It has not been proven, on the balance of probabilities, that this contributed to her death days later." Laura arrived at the hospital on April 5 and she given three 1g doses of paracetamol through an intravenous tube. The same doses were adminstered on April 6, and on April 7 she was given a final 500mg dose before medics realised they had made a mistake and administered an antidote, the Echo reports . On April 7, Laura's condition rapidly deteriorated and she was rushed into ICU, where she was placed in an induced coma the following day. Her condition continued to worsen, and on April 18 her husband Anthony and children Steven, nine, and Evelyn, seven, were called to the hospital to say their goodbyes. She died the following day on April 19 2017, with her cause of death being multi-organ failure with sepsis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis. The hospital had admitted administering Laura too much paracetamol but said they immediately gave her an antidote and that it had not caused her death. Mr Holder rejected both the hospital trust's request for a conclusion of death by natural causes as well as the family's for neglect. He said: "I have heard the (Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS ) Trust's submission that a conclusion of natural causes would be appropriate. That is rejected. "I also cannot accept the family's submission that neglect be recorded as a finding. I must explain... that neglect in coronial law is quite different. The definition of neglect in this context means a gross failure to provide adequate nourishment or liquid, or provide or procure basic medical attention or shelter or warmth for someone in a dependent position. "I cannot find that the failures by the Trust amounted to a gross failure to provide the basics in medical care. The failures of care do have to be gross, and I don't find that the failures here - that mistake of administering the paracetamol - amounts to a gross failure." He did not write a regulation 28 report for the prevention of future deaths, as the court heard a number of safeguarding measures were put in place at the hospital since Laura's death. But he said he would write a letter to the CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care in England, as Laura's family were not aware of the paracetamol overdose until three months after she had died.

( MENAFN - GetNews) Andrew Hanson discusses finding the right investment vehicle Listen to the interview on the Business Innovators radio Network: Andrew Hanson, Vice President of Generations Wealth Management, discusses the importance of selecting the right investment vehicles for retirement. Andrew shares his unique journey into the financial services industry, which began eight years ago when he joined his family business. Despite initially feeling hesitant about entering a field dominated by numbers, Andrew's passion for community service and helping others, shaped by his volunteer work with Special Olympics and connections with military families in San Clemente, California, guided him toward a fulfilling career in finance. Building a strong relationship and understanding clients' individual goals is crucial for providing tailored investment advice and solutions. In the podcast episode featuring Andrew, this concept is emphasized as a foundational element of successful financial advising. Andrew highlights that establishing trust is essential in the financial services industry. Clients often come in feeling vulnerable, sharing their financial situations and concerns. A competent advisor must create an environment where clients feel safe and understood. This trust allows clients to open up about their fears and aspirations, which is vital for crafting personalized financial strategies. Each client has unique circumstances, goals, and concerns. Andrew points out that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work in financial planning. For instance, younger clients in their 30s and 40s may focus on budgeting, family planning, and long-term growth, while clients in their 60s and 70s may prioritize security, income stability, and legacy planning. By understanding these differences, advisors can tailor their recommendations to meet specific needs. Initial meetings with clients should focus on understanding their overall goals and what they envision for their future. Andrew emphasizes the importance of asking clients about their dreams, such as spending time with grandchildren or traveling. This goal-oriented approach helps advisors align investment strategies with clients' life aspirations, ensuring that the financial plan supports their desired lifestyle. Once an advisor understands a client's goals, they can recommend investment vehicles that align with those objectives. For example, Andrew discusses the use of fixed index annuities, which can be tailored to address specific concerns such as long-term care, income guarantees, or wealth transfer to heirs. This customization is only possible when the advisor has a deep understanding of the client's individual situation. Building a relationship with clients is not a one-time effort; it requires ongoing communication and check-ins. Andrew notes that as clients become more comfortable, they may prefer less frequent updates, trusting their advisor to manage their investments effectively. This dynamic allows for a more relaxed relationship while still ensuring that the advisor remains attuned to any changes in the client's life or goals. Life circumstances can change, and so can clients' goals. A strong relationship allows advisors to adapt their strategies as needed. For instance, if a client's financial situation changes due to a job loss or a new family member, the advisor can reassess and adjust the investment plan accordingly. Andrew shared:“As a trusted family-owned firm, we blend our deep-rooted values of integrity, trust, and reliability with innovative financial expertise. US agencies should use advanced technology to identify mysterious drones, Schumer says
Rajkot: Loco pilots of Western Railway (WR) successfully prevented eight lions from being crushed under the train over two consecutive days, said officials of the Bhavnagar Division on Sunday. They said that Bhavnagar Division implements strict wildlife protection measures, specifically for lions. Train operators maintain vigilant observation while following speed limits. Joint efforts between the train operators and forest department trackers protected 104 lions during the fiscal year. On Sunday, loco pilot Dhaval P from Sunrendranagar noticed five lions crossing the railway tracks on the Rajula City-Pipavav section. Dhaval, driving the Hapa-Pipavav Port goods train, stopped it using emergency brakes and informed train manager (guard) Lokesh Sah in Botad. Sah, in turn, informed the forest department officials who rushed to the spot. The train resumed its journey after the forest guards confirmed the safety of the lions. Similarly, on Saturday, loco pilot Sunil Pandit from Junagadh spotted a lioness with two cubs crossing the railway tracks on the Chalala-Dhari section. Pandit immediately halted the Amreli-Veraval passenger train and notified train manager Vidyanand Kumar in Junagadh. After the forest guards verified that the lions cleared the tracks, the train continued its journey. Railway officials, including divisional railway manager (DRM) Ravish Kumar and additional divisional railway manager Himanshu Sharma, commended the alertness and prompt action of the loco pilots. With concerns about lion deaths on train tracks growing, the Bhavnagar Division has started putting in place a technology that can detect movement near tracks in real-time to allow loco pilots to stop or slow the train well in time and avoid a fatality. The intruder detection system (IDS), used in Japan's bullet trains and successfully implemented by the Northeast Frontier Railways to protect elephants, needs optical fibres along the tracks. The technology was first tested in the Amreli-Bhavnagar range in Sep. The project is now being tested along the Pipavav route, where the lion presence and density is higher. The system works by analysing vibrations transmitted through fibre optic cables that are buried alongside the tracks. These cables act as sensors, allowing the AI-powered system to identify the movements of wild animals, including lions, in the vicinity of the railway line in real-time. It alerts train drivers if any intruder, including a large animal, is detected. Several Asiatic lions have either died or been seriously hurt on the railway line connecting Pipavav Port with north Gujarat. It was only after the Gujarat high court raised concern that the authorities came up with a standard operating procedure (SOP) to avoid such incidents. The forest department has erected fences along the track at regular intervals to save lions from getting hit by trains. It has also directed the railways to limit the speed of trains while moving through protected Gir forest area. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India . NoneI'm always on the look out for ways to minimise anxiety and live a generally calmer life. If you're like me, and your brain goes a million miles an hour, I've found the perfect drink to help soothe things - and it's not alcohol. One of my close friends was raving about TRIP drinks on social media, and I'd seen it a few times in Boots, but didn't really understand what it was all about. I think I'm often put off by 'CBD' and vitamin based products because I don't really get how it all works. So if you're like me, and want to understand what TRIP drinks are all about, the product description reads: "Find your calm amidst the everyday chaos with our UK-crafted Lightly Sparkling Drinks. Enriched with 120MG of Magnesium and botanicals like Lion's Mane and Ashwagandha, each 23 calories sip contains 0G added sugar, offering a refreshing burst of energy and well-being." READ MORE: I went to Dunelm and spotted five end of year deals on rugs, bedding and more READ MORE: Dunelm's 'retro' and 'classy' rechargeable touch lamp now £10 The drink comes in a range of different delicious flavours including elderflower and mint and blood orange and rosemary to name a few. I tried a Peach Ginger flavour first and was really impressed with its refreshing taste. The brand offers different varieties of drinks including CBD based ones and vitamin based products which you can shop on Amazon. You can check out its full range on Amazon here. I noticed an instant feeling of calm after a few sips, but it wasn't a 'sleepy' calm, it was a peaceful and relaxed feeling. I've tried Ashwagandha vitamins in the past and found them really beneficial before sleep, so the fact I can now get it in drink form is even better. It's not just me that has been praising the drink, though. Shoppers have rated the drinks a generous 4.2 out of 5 on the Amazon website. One shopper said: "Trip mindful blends, good quality, very refreshing, no Calories, nice taste, v alue for money." A second review read: "I love these: great refreshing taste, and I’m sure I feel calmer and more focused after drinking one. They’re a little pricey, but generally worth it - you wouldn’t want to drink more than one or two in a day anyway. The TRIP brand has a selection of different combinations of botanicals; for some reason, whatever flavour you pick, all the ones available on Amazon are the ones with Lion’s Mane, Ashwaganda and theanine - i.e. the focus one. Other combinations - eg with chamomile and lemon balm instead of lion’s mane and Ashwaganda - are available in supermarkets." A third fan said: "Had it instead of alcohol, amazing taste, especially Elderflower one." However, it is important to note that one fan said the drink had an "odd after taste" which is something I personally didn't notice. You could easily use this drink as a substitute for alcohol, because the can it comes in almost feels a bit like a cocktail! I've found them to be a great replacement for fizzy drinks. I loved it that much, I purchased it in bulk, and you can find out more about the Amazon product here. Alternatively, Holland & Barrett is selling these Ashwagandha 500mg 30 Capsules for £13.
