Popular Kumawood actor, Wayoosi has addressed the ongoing feud between his colleagues, Mr. Beautiful and Agya Koo. The two actors were at loggerheads during the campaign season leading up to the 2024 December 7 general elections. Many netizens and fans believe that the feud is due to their respective political affiliations that are on opposite sides. However, in a recent interview on Kumasi-based RTV Ghana, Wayoosi clarified that contrary to popular belief, the conflict between the two is not about politics. “The feud between the two of them is not just about politics; it is also about disrespect. I can’t say who disrespected who, but it is about disrespect,” Wayoosi stated. He explained that the tension began on a movie set when producers appeared to favour one actor over the other, leading to feelings of disrespect. “It started when some producers on the set began treating one person better than the other. The other person felt disrespected. That’s where the feud began. It’s not about politics,” he reiterated. What happened? Mr. Beautiful, who is an avid supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had been throwing shots at Agya Koo, a supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing him of peddling lies about NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama. Agya Koo, in response, accused Mr. Beautiiful of seeking clout to revive his dead career. People from all over the world have long come to the United States in search of opportunities. That includes immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers, and temporary workers and students who come to the U.S. on specialty visas. Among the latter are skilled foreign workers, a select group granted special access by the H-1B visa program, designed to boost innovation and the economy via a “ brain gain ,” according to the Brookings Institute. Since launching in 1990, the program has allowed U.S. employers to hire exceptional foreign-born applicants with bachelor’s degrees or the equivalent by offering them employment in hard-to-fill positions. An H-1B visa allows foreign-born workers to stay in the country for three years, with the option to extend their stay for up to six years. In some cases, workers remain even longer if employers sponsor their green cards. Most jobs filled by H-1B workers are in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. H-1B visa holders tend to have wages within the top 10% of U.S. workers. In computer-related fields, for instance, the average annual income was $129,000 in 2022 for H-1B workers, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Congress has capped the number of H-1B workers since the program began; currently, around 85,000 applicants are accepted each year. Within that total, 20,000 spots are reserved for those with U.S. institution-issued master’s or doctorates. That number has remained unchanged for nearly two decades—even as applications have dramatically risen and backlogs have made it increasingly difficult to get a visa. From 2001 to 2003, the applicant limit was three times as high at 195,000; over the past 10 years, the program received such an influx of applicants it prompted Congress to institute a lottery system in 2014. Although exceptions to the cap are granted for nonprofit research organizations, the government, and colleges and universities, the number of applications far exceeds availability. In fiscal year 2025, for instance, there were an astounding 423,028 for just 65,000 spots. Critics of the cap say that the inability for more workers to land positions in the U.S. creates a number of problems, one of which is a lack of qualified staff for the exploding tech sector. H-1B Employer Data used its own data, news reports, and economic research to explore how a shortage of visas for skilled workers has impacted the U.S. economy. In 2024, Citizenship and Immigration Services changed the process for applying for an H-1B visa after 780,884 applications were filed that year. This process overhaul was meant to increase the odds of applicants vying for a spot and curb abuses of the system. Employers and potential employees were gaming the system, hoping multiple submissions for individual workers would increase their likelihood of being accepted; the barrier to entry had also been lowered to a $10 fee and electronic registration instead of a full application. Employers vying for top talent aren’t the only ones benefitting from the H-1B visa program. Foreign workers tend to have different skill sets than American workers, which is partly why they’re so sought-after. According to the American Immigration Council, workers from abroad may even help create additional jobs by spending and investing their earnings in the U.S. They stimulate the labor market by expanding operations in the U.S. and starting new businesses. This entrepreneurial spirit, long a hallmark of U.S. innovation, drives economic growth. “We don’t know which [immigrant] is going to have the brilliant insight that totally transforms the economy over the next 20-30 years,” David Bier, director of immigration studies at libertarian think tank the Cato Institute, told Vox . Studies show that the business impact of the H-1B visa program extends beyond individual employers as well. A 2024 study from academic researchers and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond found that companies that win H-1B lottery visas hire additional employees, generate more revenue, and survive longer. In 2017, researchers at the National Bureau of Economic Research found that H-1B workers benefit consumers and increase profits in the IT sector. Among the roughly 600,000 H-1B recipients in the country at any time, as many as 75,000 join the STEM workforce every year. Companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Intel, among the top 100 employers of H-1B workers, reap the rewards from foreign-born workers, who tend to fill in gaps in the STEM workforce—and in some cases, create opportunities. Employers, in turn, are eager to hire more H-1B workers to cultivate innovation and growth. Other types of companies, including outsourcing firms, many based in India, also depend on H-1B workers. They are inundated with USCIS applications for employees they consider “interchangeable,” according to Vox. These visa holders, typically junior programmers, will accept lower salaries and relocation requirements, and their hiring companies account for more than half of the top 30 H-1B employers. There is concern, however, that these workers could be underpaid and exploited, giving some credence to the claim that the program allows lower-wage foreign workers to take jobs from higher-earning Americans. However, existing data shows that H-1B workers help raise salaries and expand job opportunities for everyone. Employers of H-1B workers are also required to attest that U.S. workers’ salaries and working conditions will not be negatively affected, and notify incumbent employees when they hire these applicants. As evidenced by continued efforts to reform the system, there’s still plenty of room for improvement. For every one person who is granted an H-1B visa, four are denied. This means the government—Congress sets the quota—leaves $61 billion on the table every year, according to a paper by Bier, who also suggested adjusting the cap to match demand, and making changes to maintain a sufficient population of skilled workers in the U.S. In other words, the current cap on H-1B visas may actually thwart economic growth. Nine jobs are moved out of the U.S. for every 10 unapproved H-1B applications, according to a 2023 study from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, as reported by Bloomberg. Some $86 billion would be lost with a 10% reduction in guest workers, according to a Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond economist. Despite fraught debates over immigration and foreign-born workers, they have always been part of the uniquely American story of opportunity and improvement. As Jeremy Neufeld , a policy fellow with the think tank Institute for Progress, told Vox, “It’s always been the case that immigrants have been a secret ingredient in US dynamism.” Story editing by Alizah Salario. The United States and China have renewed a decades-old agreement on science and technology cooperation , officials from both countries said Friday, narrowing its scope and adding safeguards to address concerns about national security risks. The Science and Technology Agreement, originally signed in 1979, was the first accord between the two countries after they normalized diplomatic relations. It had historically been renewed roughly every five years, but U.S. lawmakers have raised concerns in about it recent years as China becomes a growing technological rival. The agreement, which was up for renewal in 2023, received two six-month extensions before lapsing on Aug. 27 of this year, and its continuation had been under negotiation for months. The State Department said Friday that the “modernized and strengthened” agreement had been extended for five years. It said the agreement sustains intellectual property protections, establishes new guardrails for protecting the safety and security of researchers, and “advances U.S. interests through newly established and strengthened provisions on transparency and data reciprocity.” The agreement covers only basic research and does not facilitate the development of critical and emerging technologies, the department said. The Biden administration has imposed export controls on advanced semiconductor chips and restricted investment in other strategically sensitive fields in China such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing, citing concerns that such technologies could aid China’s military modernization. The renewal of the agreement was also confirmed in a short statement Friday by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, which did not provide details. Supporters of the pact argued that failure to renew it would not only imperil government-to-government collaboration in vital areas such as climate change and public health, but also inhibit academic cooperation between the world’s two biggest economies. Science and technology cooperation has already been chilled by the China Initiative, a Trump-era national security program meant to counter intellectual property theft at universities and research institutions. The program, which has prompted multiple prominent Chinese researchers to leave the U.S., ended in 2022 after a string of failed prosecutions. Asian American advocacy groups said ethnic Chinese scientists were unfairly targeted by the program, which House lawmakers are seeking to revive . NBC News' Rae Wang contributed. The Milwaukee Bucks are likely to make an addition to coach Doc Rivers' rotation via an upcoming trade. The rebuilding Brooklyn Nets fit as a possible trade partner due to their presence of multiple useful veteran wings. Potential trade candidates include Cam Johnson, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Dorian Finney-Smith. The Bucks could benefit from the services of all three, but only one has an important differentiating factor. The Bucks currently have an extreme need for defenders, and Dorian Finney-Smith offers a versatile defensive skillset. He is switchable at 6-foot-6 and willing to guard multiple positions. While rim protection is not a strength, his perimeter defense would greatly improve the Bucks' easily exposed defense. Particularly, his ability to help and recover, along with effectively scrambling in rotations, would fit well alongside the defensive presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez. According to a post on X by basketball writer Gery Woelfel , "There have been recent rumors the Bucks have interest in the Nets’ Cam Thomas and Dorian Finney-Smith." Woelfel continued, "According to two NBA sources, the Nets are open to trading anyone on their roster. Said a GM about the Nets: 'They’re getting ready to rebuild — again.'" A Bucks-Nets trade involving Finney-Smith could look similar to the following: Bucks receive: Dorian Finney-Smith, Ziaire Williams, Shake Milton Nets receive: Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, MarJon Beauchamp, 2031 second-round pick Along with his defensive impact, Finney-Smith could space the floor for Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. The 31-year-old Nets wing is shooting 41 percent from three on 5.6 attempts per game this season. The 23-year-old Williams would provide much-needed athleticism and would help with the loss of Portis' scoring ability. Meanwhile, Milton would reunite with Rivers. Their tenures with the Philadelphia 76ers slightly overlapped. Milton has left a lasting impression on Rivers after dropping 39 points in 2020 against the Rivers-led Los Angeles Clippers. The Nets would agree to this deal because Finney-Smith would likely opt out of his $15 million player option for next season if he were still in Brooklyn. Also, Williams becomes a restricted free agent at the end of this season. Meanwhile, Portis and Connaughton have player options for next season as Beauchamp will hit unrestricted free agency. Williams may be in the Nets' future plans, but this deal gives them a possible contributor in the unproven Beauchamp, along with a second-round pick. Furthermore, Portis could easily be rerouted for additional draft capital. MORE BUCKS NEWS: Bucks predicted to cut ties with regressing All-Star via trade with Magic
Macron calls Haitian officials 'total morons' over PM sackingThe passing of former , widely recognised for his pioneering role in steering India towards globalisation, privatisation, and economic liberalisation, marks a significant loss to the political, social, and economic fabric of the country, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Thursday. "Singh, whose revolutionary decisions laid the foundation for transforming India into an emerging economic superpower, is being remembered for his leadership and vision," he added expressing grief over the former Union Finance Minister's death. Noting Singh's contributions, noted that his leadership during difficult times, particularly during global recessions, played a pivotal role in stabilising and strengthening the Indian economy. In his condolence message, Pawar praised Singh’s deep understanding of the global economy, his farsighted decision-making, and dedication to the welfare of ordinary citizens. “With his leadership, the Indian economy was brought back on track, and the foundation was laid for the country’s future economic success,” Pawar said. "The strong economy that enjoys today owes much to Dr Manmohan Singh’s efforts," the state finance minister said. Pawar also commended Singh’s trustworthiness, integrity, and cultured leadership, acknowledging that the nation has lost a leader who will be remembered for his successful tenure as Finance Minister and PM. "He was a courageous Prime Minister and a leader who earned the trust of the people. The country has lost a son," said Pawar. "Singh’s passing leaves behind a legacy of transformative policies that reshaped India’s economic landscape, and he will be remembered as a key architect of the country’s growth and prosperity," he said. Earlier, also condoled the death of the former prime minister Singh saying the country has lost a great scholar, statesman and economist. "With the demise of former PM Manmohan Singh, we have lost a great scholar, economist and statesman. His contributions to Indian economic reforms, serving the nation as PM for ten years, will be remembered forever," he said on X. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said he was deeply saddened. "My brief meeting with him, at his residence, made an everlasting impression on me, of how PMs can be truly humble, graceful and dignified, despite the very many achievements marked out against their name and tenure," Thackeray said. "For someone like me, born in the 90s, the opening up of India to the world and vice versa, was like growing up in a decade where each day was new, and the world was brought closer to home, thanks to him," said Aaditya.

The Arizona Cardinals were rested, relatively healthy and had been playing some of their best football in years. That's why Sunday's sobering 16-6 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks was so surprising. “Frustrating day offensively, especially the way we’ve been playing to come out here and lay an egg and get physically dominated in a sense,” quarterback Kyler Murray said. The Cardinals (6-5) had their four-game winning streak snapped. Murray completed 24 of 37 passes for 285 yards, but made a brutal mistake, throwing an interception that was returned 69 yards by Seattle's Coby Bryant. The running game never got going, gaining just 49 yards. James Conner, the team's leading rusher, had just 8 yards on seven attempts. “There were a lot of things where it felt like the flow of things just wasn’t in our favor,” receiver Michael Wilson said. "Some games go like that. And then we didn’t execute enough to make up for the game sort of not going our way.” Arizona's still in decent playoff position, tied with the Seahawks on top of the NFC West with six games to play. But after all the good news and winning over the past month, Sunday's loss was humbling. “We’re going to learn a lot from this game,” Gannon said. Arizona's defense continued its remarkable midseason turnaround, giving the team every opportunity to win Sunday. The front seven doesn't have any stars, but continues to cobble together a respectable pass rush. The Cardinals finished with five sacks, all by different players. Second-year cornerback Garrett Williams intercepted a pass by Geno Smith on the first play of the fourth quarter, briefly giving the Cardinals some momentum as they tried to fight back. Williams — a third-round pick out of Syracuse in 2023 — is growing into a steady starting corner that the Cardinals have missed for years. “I thought that they hung in there and battled, forced a bunch of punts, kept points off the board,” Gannon said. “I thought the interception by Garrett was fantastic, kept us in the game there, kept points off the board. We made some mistakes. We made some mistakes, starting with me.” The Cardinals aren't going to win many games with a rushing performance like Sunday's. Conner, held to a season low in yards rushing, did have 41 yards receiving. Rookie Trey Benson had four carries for 18 yards, while Emari Demercado broke a 14-yard gain. Getting Conner going is key. Arizona has a 5-1 record this season when he has at least 100 total yards from scrimmage. Gannon said falling into an early hole affected some of the things the Cardinals could do, particularly in the second half. “I thought there was plays there, but again, where you get down in that game, you’re not really playing normal ball there for a good chunk of the game,” Gannon said. “So we’ve got to do a better job earlier in the game to make sure we’re not playing left-handed.” Fourth-year edge rusher Zaven Collins isn't necessarily the star fans hoped for when he was selected with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft, but he has quietly had a productive season leading the team's no-name front seven. Collins picked up his fourth sack of the season Sunday and put consistent pressure on Smith. Murray's still having a great season, but the quarterback's MVP credentials took a hit with Sunday's mediocre performance. He played pretty well at times, but the interception that turned into a pick-6 was a backbreaker. The sixth-year quarterback had largely avoided those types of plays this season, which is a big reason they're in the playoff hunt. “Can't give them seven points, especially when our defense is playing the way that they’re playing,” Murray said. “I feel like if I don’t do that, we’re in the game four quarters because that’s the way it was trending.” The Cardinals came out of Sunday's game fairly healthy. Gannon said starting safety Jalen Thompson (ankle) should be back at practice Wednesday. He missed the last two games. 12 and 133 — Tight end Trey McBride continued his breakout season with a career-high 12 catches for 133 yards. The Cardinals have another difficult road game against the Vikings (9-2) on Sunday. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl
