After spending ten long years behind bars, finally, the day had come for the prisoner to taste freedom once again. With his heart pounding in his chest and his mind racing with a mix of emotions, he walked out of the prison gates, his eyes squinting against the bright sunlight. And as soon as his feet touched the ground outside, he broke into a run – a run towards the unknown, a run towards a new beginning.Enerflex Ltd. Provides Update Related to Kurdistan Project
ST. PAUL — Former Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic died Friday following a battle with cancer. She was 62. Her family said she died surrounded by loved ones. “She had a heart of gold, willing to go to any measure to help those she loved,” they said in a statement. ADVERTISEMENT Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chair Ken Martin the Minneapolis Democrat was committed to working for Minnesotans. She served in the Minnesota Senate for more than a decade. “It is impossible to overstate the positive impact that Senator Dziedzic’s leadership has had on our state,” Martin said in a statement. “She devoted her life to making her fellow Minnesotans’ lives better, and she refused to allow cancer to get in her way. Minnesota has lost a giant, but her extraordinary legacy will outlast us all.” Dziedzic was instrumental in holding together the Senate DFL caucus in 2023 as they passed, with a one-vote majority, a variety of Democratic priorities like funding universal school meals for students, approving a paid family and medical leave program, cementing legal protections for abortion and gender-affirming care and legalizing cannabis for recreational use. She was respected on both sides of the political aisle and her demeanor was always steady, even amid tense times in the Senate. Dziedzic’s laid-back style made her a surprising pick for majority leader after the 2022 election. Leaders from both major political parties said they were heartbroken by her death. “Senator Kari Dziedzic was a passionate legislator, a respected leader, and a trusted colleague and friend. She will be remembered for her integrity and her compassion for Minnesotans, something that we all saw as she continued to serve even as she battled cancer,” said Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, an East Grand Forks Republican. “I’m deeply saddened at her passing and am praying for her family and friends as we all mourn this loss.” House Speaker Melissa Hortman, DFL-Brooklyn Park, said she was “one of the most skilled diplomats ever to serve in elected office.” ADVERTISEMENT “Her legacy includes significant achievements in policy and investment in Minnesota, but more importantly she will be remembered for treating people with dignity and respect and never giving up on finding workable compromises,” Hortman said. “She had an incredible ability to work diligently through the most arcane and difficult policy issues to find resolution.” Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, DFL-St. Paul, agreed, saying she was “an uncommon leader.” “Her talents as a consequential and thoughtful leader made us all better legislators, and her examples of kindness humor, and selflessness made us all better people,” Murphy said. Former Senate DFL Leader Melisa López Franzen praised Dziedzic as a hard worker. “The last time I spoke to Kari a few weeks ago she was still serving her constituents,” she wrote on social media. “That’s Senator Dziedzic, the hardest working legislator I have ever had the honor to serve with. Rest in peace my friend.” Dziedzic was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2023 and underwent emergency surgery to limit its spread. She stepped down from her leadership position in February after her cancer recurred. The Senate will now stand in a 33-33 tie between Democrats and Republicans heading into the 2025 legislative session. Gov. Tim Walz has not yet said when he might call for a special election in the Minneapolis district. ADVERTISEMENT Dziedzic had a degree in engineering but couldn’t resist the family pull into public service. Her father, Walt, was a colorful Minneapolis city council member who later served on the park board. Dziedzic told MPR News that she felt drawn into politics after watching her father’s example. “I knew the long hours. I knew the phone calls at home. I knew what I was walking into,” she said. “But I also knew the opportunity that you have to help other people. And it’s about helping people and making your community better.” Dziedzic began a career in public service as a campaign volunteer and later moved on to become a scheduling aide for former U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone. After a stint working for a Hennepin County commissioner, she was nudged to run for a state Senate seat when longtime lawmaker Larry Pogemiller stepped down to take another government job. Gov. Tim Walz called Dziedzic a “one-of-a-kind leader.” He added, “Her legacy should inspire all of us in elected office to be better public servants.” Details for a memorial service have not yet been announced. ______________________________________________________ This story was written by one of our partner news agencies. The Republican attorneys general of Virginia and Montana recently filed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to require TikTok to sever its ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as the fate of the social media platform in the U.S. remains uncertain. The amicus brief, filed Friday, came the same day President-elect Trump filed an amicus brief of his own, asking the Supreme Court to pause the TikTok ban and allow him to make executive decisions about TikTok once he is inaugurated. In an announcement, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares said he, along with Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen and other state legal officials, had recently petitioned the Supreme Court to uphold the divest-or-ban law against TikTok. The social media company has been intensely scrutinized over its parent company, ByteDance, which is connected to the CCP. In his brief, Miyares argued whistleblower reports prove ByteDance has shared sensitive information with the CCP, including Americans' browsing habits and facial recognition data. "Virginians deserve a government that stands firm in protecting their privacy and security. "The Supreme Court now has the chance to affirm Congress’s authority to protect Americans from foreign threats while ensuring that the First Amendment doesn’t become a tool to defend foreign adversaries’ exploitative practices." Steven Cheung, Trump's spokesman and the incoming White House communications director, told Fox News Digital Trump's decision-making would "preserve American national security." "[The brief asked] the court to extend the deadline that would cause TikTok’s imminent shutdown and allow President Trump the opportunity to resolve the issue in a way that saves TikTok and preserves American national security once he resumes office as president of the United States on Jan. 20, 2025," Cheung said. Trump's brief notes he "has a unique interest in the First Amendment issues raised in this case" and that the case "presents an unprecedented, novel, and difficult tension between free-speech rights on one side, and foreign policy and national-security concerns on the other." ABC’s late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is still clinging to the prospect of one day seeing President-elect Donald Trump behind bars, even as the left’s lawfare cases against him continue to crumble post-election victory. Jimmy Kimmel devoted his opening monologue on Wednesday’s show to complaining about Trump’s cabinet picks, especially Matt Gaetz for U.S. Attorney General, whom Democrats and the media have targeted for a #MeToo cancel campaign straight from their playbook on Brett Kavanaugh. Kimmel recapped in great detail the left’s claims — which Gaetz has denied — and then tried to tie it all together by somehow connecting it to Trump. “The President... is a criminal,” he said, prompting lusty applause from the studio audience. “Thirty-four times over, he’s a convicted criminal. Truth be told, he’s not even looking for a cabinet. He’s looking for cellmates.” In the months leading up to the election, Kimmel used his ABC platform to repeatedly fantasize about Trump being sent to jail. His wishful thinking was part of the corporate media’s larger effort to damage Trump’s campaign and demoralize his supporters. But their efforts failed to stop Trump from winning on November 5. Since then, the left’s lawfare cases against Trump continue to crumble. Just three days after Trump’s resounding victory, special counsel Jack Smith requested Judge Tanya Chutkan to cancel all deadlines and ongoing proceedings in the Biden-Harris Department of Justice (DOJ)’s election interference case. Smith is also set to step down as special counsel and will leave the Department of Justice before Trump is sworn in as the 47th president in January, effectively bringing to an end Smith’s legal persecution of Trump. A federal judge had already thrown out Smith’s documents case against Trump in July, ruling that Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional. As Breitbart News reported this week, attorneys for President-elect Trump are requesting permission to file a motion to dismiss the business records case in Manhattan, contending that the U.S. Constitution mandates its “[i]mmediate dismissal.” The case was brought against Trump by Soros-backed Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg (D). Follow David Ng on Twitter @HeyItsDavidNg . Have a tip? Contact me at dng@breitbart.com

A social services agency that operates a supervised consumption site in Toronto has filed a legal challenge against recently passed Ontario legislation that will shut down several such sites and effectively prevent new ones from opening. The Neighbourhood Group Community Services agency, along with two people who use or have used supervised consumption sites, argue the legislation violates the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well as the Constitution. They argue the law infringes on the right to life, liberty and security of the person by forcing people who use the sites to instead resort to unhealthy and unsafe consumption, which carries an increased risk of death from overdose. The challenge also argues the legislation goes against the division of powers between Ottawa and provinces, in that only the federal government can make criminal law and try to suppress what it considers a "socially undesirable practice." 10 consumption sites to close by end of March Premier Doug Ford's Progressive Conservative government has taken a hard line on supervised consumption sites in favour of an abstinence-based model for treatment. The government fast-tracked legislation that prohibits any supervised consumption sites within 200 metres of a school or daycare, and is set to close 10 sites that are within that range. Instead, the province plans to put in place 19 new "homelessness and addiction recovery treatment hubs," plus 375 highly supportive housing units at a planned cost of $378 million. Union urges Toronto to keep workers at safe injection site slated to close Ford government's opioid strategy outdated, auditor general says Ontario's auditor general found in her latest report that the province's opioid strategy is outdated and a new, comprehensive approach is needed to deal with the ongoing crisis. In the report released last week, Shelley Spence also found that more than 1,600 overdoses were reversed in 2022-23 at the sites slated to close, and no one died of an overdose at those locations in the same time frame. Under the legislation, the 10 sites have to close by March 31, 2025.Sean 'Diddy' Combs denied bail for a third time
